It’s hard, even with this audience, for the “presenters” to make this as interactive as it could be. But, that would take learner prep. How would you have gotten all of us to do that?
That would be an interesting optional track for the next online conference: “all those who want to do some advance prep, here are the materials; here’s what we want to hear from you about, and by when; and if you do this, you’ll be qualified to participate in this particular track.”
Unfortunately, so far I’m disappointed in the day.
First, since this is a webinar on webinars, I expected that top webinar practices would be illustrated even if they were not related to the topic being covered. This means I expected the courses to be more interactive, to take advantage of advanced webinar options, including the ability to see the presenter as they are presenting.
Second, as I sat in on On-Line Meetings 101 I felt that the title of the course was misleading. I expected to hear content on preparing, running and following up on an on-line meeting. Instead we were presented with information on selecting a meeting format & provider.
Hopefully, the rest of the day will improve.
This is my first web seminar and it is cool!! I’m at the LaSalle site – three different sessions running and people are chatting on line and asking questions, the speakers have visuals….. so interesting!!
This event has been great for networking. I have also learned about some interesting websites that I’d like to investigate further. I currently use classroom based learning but I’d like to start to integrate some online tools for our employees offsite.
Networking opportunies are great at the this event. Unfortunately, I don’t know what networking would be like during an eLearning experience. The keynote session was very informative. My second session on Capturing Learning without Killing it didn’t really do the trick for me, but it did inspire some ideas on podcasting for project management or recording training sessions and making them available later. My session on eLearning interactiviy was good for content, but the instructor used his iLink to describe interactivity. I am using a different too but believe that I can incorporate some of the ideas.
good interaction with other participants. I got to see Lasalle’s facility. Having access to all of the sessions on a reference basis is helpful. thanks
Great Webinar! Very comfortable facility at La Salle University in Plymouth Meeting, PA. Great topics, particularly topics on culture issues for the trainer. Looking forward to more here at La Salle. I would like to make a suggestion for the next one to find a speaker to cover using good graphics in Webinars. Thank you!
Nannette Miner’s session on Creating Collaborative Synchornous Exercises was excellent. She not only discussed the procedures, but she also practiced them during the session. We gave feedback on white boards and in chat.
Thanks for this session. It was the best I saw today.
I’m at the LaSalle location and really enjoying the networking opportunities. The sessions tended to cover basic training principles and techniques; overall the day was very well organized and I’ll be happy yo attend another.
Maybe less topics next time so there is an opportunity to ask more questions to the presenter as well as have an opportunity to try out some of the techniques they discussed such as the “breakout” groups. I think it would also be valuable if the presenters not only provided a copy of their presentations but other handouts that provided more detail on the “how to” and tools and resources -more like a reference guide for the participants. When the Nat’l ASTD does their Best Of conference the presenters provide the “how to” in handouts and highlight with slides.
Overall – the concept is great and ASTD Philadelphia Chapter should do this again and poll members on topics they would like to attend.
I’m proud of our eLearning SIG for spearheading this. It was very ambitious. I arrived late after I did some training for Cogent this morning. After I got here to the Metroplex I experienced lots of good networking. Thanks Bobbe and Noelle!
I decided to participate in the “online” seminar online from my home office and, due to my experience, I’ve decided that I am not a supporter of totally online seminars for the following reasons:
- no opportunity to network – networking is better face-to-face
- though being able to multitask can be convenient, it can also be distracting
- much lower attention span
- inability to gauge audience feedback and reactions
I also find that the “Go Green” marketing for this event is misleading, as the it seems that so many participants were present for the event.
Overall, I think that the total online experience was beneficial for me, if only to solidify my opinion that “total online” is not the most effective avenue for learning.
